I was wondering if anyone ever had days where you just feel low, like
some strange, gloomy feeling is inside of you and you just feel bleak, and feel
spaced out when doing anything.
Its been happening to me over the past few days, and it's affecting my relationship
with my family and my Avodas Hashem especially. I'm feeling disconnected and
just dry inside.
Any advice?

Of course I identify with this... I used to think that everyone has their bad days, agreed, but you just don't understand MINE. They're baaaad! Obviously this was just what I told myself so I could feel like 'NOBODY UNDERSTANDS ME', but I realize now just how irrational that was / is.

One of the best pieces of advice I was given was the simple sentence; 'This feeling will pass'.

It doesn't sound like a major bombshell, right? But the amount of times I've had to repeat it over and over again... Just try it!!

Interesting because today a friend and I were talking about how you'd blow up at a family member but as soon as your friend calls, you answer in your most sweetest voice, 'hey there...' How is that ok? She told me that after much internal work she found a new approach. Obviously everyone has the days where they just feel low; so when she wants to scream at her mother, she'd say 'Mom, this has nothing to do with you but I'm in a really bad mood, can we talk in 5 minutes?' I've even heard her on the phone 'Dad, I'm going to hang up now, take a breath, and then call you back'... Isn't that an incredible level of self- awareness?

Lastly, DO THINGS YOU ENJOY. At times I make lists of things to look forward to in my life/today/tomorrow. Love living :-)

In short: This feeling will pass, don't take it out on the people closest to you, treat yourself.
'A person can't decide to sit on the sidelines in this world. Once we're born, we're on the playing field that means we have to pick up that ball of life's challenges and begin running with it towards our goal'

Malki, thank you so much!
Excellent advice - three points that seem to sum it up pretty well!
I'm happy to know I'm not the only one who has this, and thank you again for the
support!
Hoping this feeling will pass very soon,

Shvester
